We became Christians in our teens, and immediately embarked upon an evangelical mission on the streets of our home town. We gave out leaflets on those streets, arranging local events, with others, at a church venue for young people.
John and Jane were used by their Church in ministry with children on Sundays. Jane was also involved heavily in a Christian play group. We attended a traditional Baptist Church where John led house groups and prayer cells. Besides teaching, John was given and used his spiritual gifts. Jane was involved and often led a women’s bible study group, made pastoral visits to women in their homes for prayer and bible study. We were both involved in youth clubs and the Boys Brigade – Jane was the captain of the company. Jane was also a deacon in the church. She completed a year’s advanced Christian counselling course in 1996 and believes that her ministry lies in sharing God’s love by caring and praying for people, especially women. We have both been involved in public speaking, giving testimony and teaching to clubs and groups.
We left the UK in 1998. After settling into our new home in a small hamlet near Arboleas in Spain, we found that there was very little provision for English speaking Christians to meet and worship together in the whole province of Almería. Initially, we attended a newly formed Sunday morning service on the coast. Then for nearly 2 years we hosted a fellowship, meeting in our home, assisted by our three children who are now adults. During this time we organised a carol service locally, well attended and supported by the local community, helping to establish us as Christians in our area. John’s peripatetic teaching ministry developed, as he provided Bible-based sermons most Sundays. He is known to challenge many traditional ways of thinking, which are without biblical backing. He is not afraid to speak out about Jesus.
The area we moved to has seen many changes as it has now become the new home for thousands of British ex-pats, seeking a “new life in the sun”. We have met many Christians who live here either permanently or part-time, maintaining links with quite a few. John & Jane have, by God’s grace, been involved in the development of fellowships in the area, including organising an “Alpha” course at the Beacon Christian Fellowship, in Turre. In the Albox and Arboleas areas we helped to organise and took part in a “Songs of Praise” afternoon at a local hotel, resulting in a donation being given to a disabled persons charity in Albox.
In April 2005 John & Jane felt a real need to encourage and develop prayer support amongst Christians in Spain. The Lord prompted the initiation and development of an idea called “prayersharers”, originally as an email circulation project, later to be established here on the web www.prayersharers.org which has now become a source of prayer points, inspirational articles, information and teaching for Christians in Spain. We have close ties with a ministry in Torrevieja, and are pleased to co-operate with them in promoting “Costa Blanca Mission”.
In May 2006 we visited Israel on a prayer tour with Prayer for Israel.
This has kindled in us a love for the land and people of Israel and a desire to pray for them.
Our mission is to take the Good News of Jesus to those who are willing to hear and accept it for themselves, amongst both churched and unchurched, in whatever way we can, in accordance with God’s perfect will, as we continue to use the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
In December 2014 we relocated to England after almost 17 years in Spain.
We look forward to a future seeking God’s Guidance.
