Today’s Bible reading:
Romans 4:7-9
For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

Hungary / Europe

This week there was a short message from an asylum seeker who had moved from Syria and now is living in Europe. It was sent to Thru The Bible. He said that he had found help in Hungary, and through listening to the gospel message of thru the bible had also found “peace for my soul”. This peace (from Christ) he had not expected!

Heavenly Father,  We thank You for the encouragement that comes from hearing this man’s short testimony. We pray that this story of finding the Peace of Jesus Christ will be repeated many thousands of times across Europe as refugees come to Europe for shelter.
We pray that they will become both hearers and doers of the Word, – becoming disciples of Christ and telling others of their new found peace and salvation. Father, we pray that You will build Your church, increasing their faith, making them a strong spiritual presence in the Name of Jesus Christ, through whom we pray and praise Your holy Name, Amen.

U.K.

We have just heard from our friend that his 3 year old grand-daughter has had a trampoline accident and broken her leg. We are asked to pray that it heals well and that her leg grows normally. We’ll take this opportunity to pray again for safety in the summer holidays.

Heavenly Father, we pray for this little girl, as she has had her leg bones set into position and plastered for the next 5 weeks. Lord, we ask that You promote rapid and perfect healing, so that as she grows up, her leg will be perfectly normal. We pray that the time will go quickly for her as to be immobilised at such a young age can be a challenge.

Lord, we also take this opportunity to pray again for all teaching staff and pupils, that they enjoy a safe  summer holiday, refreshed by their break and ready to start a new term in September. Through Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.

Nigeria

In Nigeria, persecution of Christians has been severe at the hands of “Boko Haram” an Islamist terror group. Lately, the government have liberated parts of Adamawa state and Christians have been able to return home to rebuild their lives. They are returning to  homes but many churches have been burnt out and bibles destroyed.
Christian Today link

Heavenly Father, we have previously prayed for Nigeria and that the government will defeat the terror threat from Boko Haram. We give You our praise that progress is being made and that those that were displaced, have been able to return to where they belong.
Lord, we pray that there will be replacements found for their bibles, and resources to rebuild the churches in honour of Your Name.
We pray for those that are persecuted, living in risk of losing their lives for their faith, and ask, Lord, that You build them up and encourage them to speak the Name of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Lord, grant them peace and safety, may they grow in knowledge and faith in Your Word. Amen.

Today’s Bible reading: Psalm 121:1-3
I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.

SPAIN:

I found a website called aprayerforspain.org and discovered that they have a list of towns where there is no evangelical church. One of these which is close to us is the town of Vélez-Rubio, which has a population of more than 7,000 people. So today we are going to cover that town, which we visit occasionally.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the beauty of the countryside of Spain, which is very much a feature of Vélez-Rubio and Vélez-Blanco. With the mountains, castles, traditional towns and villages, to the soaring eagles, it is a wonderful example of Your Hand of Creation. Father, we lift up to You, the people that live in Los Vélez. Each individual, Lord, we ask You to place in their hearts the seed of the knowledge of true salvation in Jesus Christ.
Father, we pray that Vélez-Rubio will become known for its Christian people and for its outreach, because we know that when we pray in faith, miracles happen which we cannot envisage in the natural. Father we ask that you move in these towns and turn the hearts of men and women towards You, making disciples true to the Word of God. May those believers already living in that area be motivated to speak out the gospel, to meet with other Christians, to encourage each other and build themselves up in faith. Father we pray this, knowing that Your will is for souls to be saved, and ask for many souls to be saved in Los Vélez.
Amen.

We received this prayer request for healing from John K

Please pray for me, I have ear pains, and I have to go to doctors to get ears checked. Please pray that God will ease the pain and discomfort in my ears, and that all will go well with the doctor. Thank you.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the privilege of praying for others who need the touch of Your hand in their lives. We ask that You will show Your love and your power to John K through healing of his ears, take away all pain and give him a good sense of hearing, we ask, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Today’s Bible reading: John 6:30-35
So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
“Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

SPAIN:

Our neighbour, D, who we were praying for, passed away last week and we intend to go to his funeral tomorrow. We are now praying for his wife and family as they look to the future.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the companionship of our friends and our neighbours. We thank you for our parents, who loved us and brought us up. We thank You that your plan for us means that we have a beginning of life and an end to our earthly lives. We also give You praise, Oh Lord, for sending Jesus Christ, the reason that we can look forward to a resurrection in Christ, having faith in Him as our redeemer and Saviour. Father we pray for comfort for the family of D at this time. We pray that you will surround them with the knowledge of your love and bless them along with others that we know are bereaved at this time. Amen.

The wider world:

Ex-pats like us, living in Spain, have family and friends many in the UK, so we do remember them in our prayers most weeks, although it is not included on the weekly list. This week we will spend some time praying for those friends and family, whether saved or not, for their blessing and salvation, their protection from evil and for their faith to develop as they grow in their knowledge of Jesus Christ, the only Saviour.

Dear loving Heavenly Father, we remember our families and friends, wherever they are, separated by miles, although held together in love. We pray for the ones that You know as Your own and those that do not yet know You. Lord, we pray for salvation for those that have not yet found Jesus, and we pray for a deepening faith and love for God in those who do. Father, we believe that Jesus Christ died for the sins of all mankind and that this is available to “whosoever” has faith in Your Son. We pray that You will keep them safe, protect them from evil, bless them with the peace that comes from knowledge of eternal life. Amen.

We received the following request from Northern Ireland:

Name:    J.K.
Subject :   Urgent Prayer Needed for my Finances
Message:    Please pray for a financial miracle to take place in my life this week from God, this week of September 16th 2013, that I will be financially secure and able to bless others. Amen. Thank you.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the opportunity to pray for those in need, and we lift up J.K. to You, asking that You hear his request. We pray Lord, that You will provide sufficient for his needs and that he will be able to pass on blessings to others, amen.

Today’s Bible reading: 1 John 1 vv 7-9
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

SPAIN:

Our autonomous region of Spain, Andalucía, is being rocked by allegations of corruption, involving illegal payments worth more than 1 billion euros. The “ERE scandal” is just another symptom of the rotten political system under which we try to live lawfully, with conditions of austerity where nearly 5 million people have no jobs.
Whilst all this goes on, we look to our Lord God for light and truth, whilst passing on the hope and deep joy of salvation that comes from repenting our sins and putting our faith totally in Jesus Christ, the resurrected Son of a loving and living God!

Heavenly Father,  we thank and praise You, that whatever is happening around us, we have the knowledge and joy of knowing Jesus Christ as our friend, brother and Saviour. He is totally reliable, totally honest, totally devoid of all sin. Father we thank You for forgiving us our sins and we ask for Your help as we spread the gospel of peace, love, faith and salvation in Andalucía and – with the help of our brothers and sisters in Christ – throughout Spain.
Amen.

The following prayer requests were received this week:

9th September
From Alisha
Subject:    Broken relationship
Message:    I cheated my boyfriend and got separated.
Please pray for me that he may accept me back

Heavenly Father, we pray for Alisha as she comes to terms with her regrets and mistake. Father, we know that You give us second chances and we pray that Alisha will receive the desires of her heart – a second chance with her boyfriend. Lord – Your will be done in their lives. Amen.

Israel:

The turmoil continues around Israel, with Russia and the USA arguing over the best way to disarm Assad of his chemical weapons stock.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that for the time being, there has not been an escalation or spread of the civil war in Syria. We give thanks that the UK government voted against military action, as we just do not know what the consequences would be of a Western attack on the country. Father we pray for the Christians caught up in the midst of this war, fought between the different Islamic factions. May You bless and protect them, giving them a strong faith in times of trouble. Father we pray that the area will calm down and return to peace for a while longer, knowing that You know the beginning from the end, the great plan for us all. We praise You Lord, because You are a great and loving God. Amen.
